Studio of Toy Making and Basketry
characteristics
The main arts and craft disciplines are textile toys and basketry where students acquaint with different materials and their qualities, as well as with craft techniques which they use when elaborating their own creative designs. The most natural way of verification of comprehensibility of art stylization and craft execution is cooperation with pre schools or children hospital wards.
The subject Crafts techniques is divided into two parts. The aim of textile toy unit is creative, technical and craft encompassment of a simple as well as fully flexible toy, creation of space objects or wall sets for children interiors, and other decorative artefacts. Students learn basics of hand and machine sewing, try different technological processes and different materials. While solving other tasks they get marginally engaged with clothes or interior accessories. In basketry unit students first learn to weave basic shapes of common utility or decorative items from wicker, straw, corn leaves, and from pedig or reed mace. They make baskets, bound demijohns, flasks or bottles, make clothes accessories and jewellery. Later they work on freer tasks like space objects or interior accessories from traditional or new materials.
Accompanying craft techniques - hand embroidery, printing and hand weaving – are integral part of tuition.
